Earl Hingston was born in New Zealand. He has had a career in advertising and corporate visual communication as a designer and illustrator. In the 1960s Earl came to Sydney to gain further experience. A challenge to open Wellington’s first graphic design consultancy saw a return to New Zealand. The largest of all commissions Earl received was to design the symbol and related corporate elements for the New Zealand Post Office, one of the country’s largest corporate identity programs. His work appeared in national design magazines. He was elected Fellow of the prestigious Chartered Society of Designers, London. In Sydney he was a creative director and director of an advertising agency. Earl is a Fellow of the Australian Society of Marine Artists.
The CCWS thanks retired committee member Mary Ellison. Mary joined the Society in 2012. She was elected Equipment Officer in 2013 and Librarian in 2015. Mary has retired from the Committee but we will continue to enjoy her company at our meetings.

Introduction to Watercolour Workshops
CCWS April meeting was well attended, with members being given a lecture by Jocelyn Maughan on all facets of drawing. Jocelyn is a very distinguished artist from the Gosford area, who achieved a Diploma of Fine Arts at the National Art School, Sydney, which was followed by a career as an Art Educator.
Jocelyn also critiqued the monthly challenge of Mineral where members brought in their paintings of all things Mineral.
Coming up in April the CCWS has the general meeting this Wednesday the 11th from 9.30 am to 12.00pm in the Community Centre, The Entrance. This month’s meeting features a demonstration by Jocelyn Maughan – distinguished, well known, central coast artist – on the subject of Drawing. Bring along your notebooks as Jocelyn is bound to share some interesting facets of drawing. Also at this month’s meeting our Painting Challenge is “Mineral”, so there will be heaps of subjects that can fit that criteria ie a solid, naturally occurring, inorganic substance. Anything not animal or vegetable. Get the paint brushes and the brain cells working!
Earl Hingston will be giving a two day workshop on the 14th & 15th of this month. Earl is focussing on landscapes, old buildings and perhaps boats. Places still available – click here for workshop forms Workshop Booking Form.
