Juanita O’Brien

Juanita, loved drawing & painting as a child and progressed to portraiture in oils with her first husband, (Ralph) who took up art as a hobby

When she married her present husband (Tom the Nomad) she received a set of student watercolours from Tom’s daughter, (Fiona) and found them a more convenient medium for painting while living the Nomadic life style, caravaning around Australia.

Needing tuition in this medium, watercolour, she was tutored by Ann Brack & the late David Clarke and has embraced it as her favorite medium.

In 2010 she won the watercolour section of Gosford Council’s 50+ “Grandma Moses” Comp. with “Breakaway Country” near Coober Pedy.

In 2011 she again won the same comp. with “Moon Plains” also near Coober Pedy.

Somaliland beauty “Waris Dirie” (and woman’s rights advocate) is her first effort at portraiture in watercolour.

Juanita has done many workshops, was Treasurer of the CCWS from 2008 to 2011 and is still an active artist and member of the Society
